TL Mapping and Research Strategies

TL Experience/Learning

Social Mapping: In 2011 TL conducted a Social Mapping Exercise that looked at four main environments: The Highlands Highway; the Palm Oil Industry; the Military; and the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) pipeline project.

Environment Strategies: After the Social Mapping, TL developed Environment Strategies in each of its 20 sites – looking at what key populations were there, what interventions might work.

Stakeholder Mapping: This study mapped which other organisations were working where and what parts of the HIV response they contributed to. This helped make sure that TL complemented the work of others and didn’t duplicate or conflict with other work

Periodic Surveys: TL conducted two surveys (one in 2012 and one in 2015) of people who had been involved in TL activities at site level. These surveys looked at sexual behaviour, patterns of health service use for STIs and HIV and STI knowledge.
These exercises assisted TL to shape its program to local need.
